Contribution to knowledge

My research contribution so far has been mainly on fish biology, fish nutrition and ecotoxicological effects of different effluent and mineral elements on the ecophysiologiy of several important food fishes such as Clarias gariepinus, Tilapia zillii, Oreochromis niloticus and Sarotherodon galileaus.

Paper (i), (ii) and (vii) which is a study on fish nutrition showed that blood meal-bovine rumen digesta blend diet can successfully replace fish meal in fish feed at 25% and 50% inclusion level without having any toxic or adverse effect on the physiology of the fish. In a related study, fish feeding practices in some fish ponds in Ekiti farm was shown in Paper (vi) to negatively impacted the water quality of the fish pond. However, paper (iii) researched into fish biology of fishes in Osinmo reservoir. The findings of this study showed that all the fish species are rich sources of protein, high moisture and low oil category meeting the requirement for human nutritional needs. Other studies concentrated on effect of effluent discharges on fish composition, water quality and ecophysiology of fish. The effect of gold mine in the abandoned gold mine reservoir Igun, Atakunmosa local government was shown in paper (iv), however, agricultural run offs and industrial discharges was reported in paper (v), (viii) and paper (ix) to negatively impact the health and integrity of Saba river and Osinmo Reservoir by increasing the heavy metal load in the water and fillet of the native fish species. Adverse effect of water soluble fraction of crude oil and its refined product on the growth performance, blood serum and liver activities of Clarias gariepinus juvenile was shown in paper (x)
