.    CONTRIBUTIONS TO KNOWLEDGE:

My major discipline and research area is Limnology and Hydrobiology. My initial research efforts were based on the planktonic flora and fauna and physico-chemical water properties of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Teaching and Research Farm Lake, Ile-Ife, Southwestern, Nigeria where information on how the planktonic communities of the reservoir have been affected by the water quality of the lake for the period of over 40 years of its impoundments were detailed out with data obtained from the research indicating an evidence of aging of the reservoir with gradual transformation from oligotrophic to a eutrophic waterbody. Also, the study of the sediment characteristics and benthic macro-invertebrate fauna of Owalla Reservoir, Osun State, Nigeria (the largest reservoir in the State) provided information on the bottom sediment characteristics and the taxonomic composition as well as time-space distribution of benthic macro-invertebrates and the influence of anthropogenic activities within the catchment basin of the reservoir on its water quality. The results of the study indicated that the reservoir was rich in benthic macro-invertebrate fauna and that there were no evidences of organic and inorganic pollution in the reservoir, an indication of its fitness for potable water supply and fishery production. Both studies were however, undertaken during the periods of my postgraduate trainings (M.Sc. and Ph.D. respectively). Papers E4 (vi); E4 (viii) and E4 (x) are publications from the results of these research works and another manuscript has already been submitted for publication from the outcome of the Ph.D. research work which is currently under review. I have also collaborated with colleagues on many occasions on water quality, hydrobiology and limnological surveys of various waterbodies within the South western Nigeria and other regions of the country of which most of the findings of these researches have been published in reputable journals. My professional and academic trainings have also, involved researches, practical instructions and teaching on the areas of Limnology, Ecology, Radiation ecology, Invertebrate biology, Applied limnology and fisheries, Oceanography, Aquatic production and productivity, Water chemistry, Surface and Groundwater quality, Plankton science as well as Benthic ecology studies of Freshwater, Brackish and Marine waterbodies. I have also been involved in major Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)/Environmental Social and Management Plan (ESMP)/Environmental Social and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA)/Environmental Audit and Facility Monitoring of major Factories/Industries and other Private and Public Facilities in Nigeria. I have also written and submitted more than twenty (20) reports on the baseline environmental conditions, impact assessments and management plans on the different areas of water quality and hydrobiology to different Regulatory bodies in the country where decisions and regulations on environmental control, restorations, managements and remediation have been made based of the findings of the reports.
